Adaptive Leadership

How well do you navigate change, foster learning, and think strategically? This assessment measures the leadership capabilities that matter most when the path forward is uncertain. Available as a self-assessment or with multi-rater input from up to 5 observers.

What It Measures

Adaptive leadership is about thriving in complexity. This assessment measures three domains that distinguish leaders who navigate change effectively:

Learning Orientation

Do you learn from experience and help others do the same?

  • Feedback & Evaluation
  • Growth Mindset

Change Facilitation

Can you move ideas into action and handle resistance?

  • Implementation Agility
  • Resilience & Conflict

Strategic Thinking

Are you connecting daily work to the bigger picture?

  • Purpose & Planning
  • Delegation & Leadership

How It Works

Adaptive Leadership can be used as a self-assessment or as a multi-rater assessment. In self-assessment mode, the leader evaluates their own change leadership practices. In multi-rater mode, the leader also invites up to 5 observers (direct reports, peers, or managers) to provide their perspective. Each respondent completes 24 paired-comparison items, indicating which of two leadership behaviors better describes the leader and how strongly.

Reports compare self-perception against observer ratings, revealing how effectively a leader navigates change, promotes learning, and thinks strategically.

Common Questions

Why is adaptive leadership important?

In stable environments, technical leadership skills are sufficient. But in uncertain or rapidly changing environments, adaptive leadership — the ability to navigate ambiguity, foster continuous learning, and think strategically — becomes critical. This assessment measures the capabilities that matter when business-as-usual approaches will not work.

How is this different from change management?

Change management focuses on executing a planned change. Adaptive leadership is broader — it is about creating an environment where people can learn continuously, think through complex problems together, and navigate uncertainty as a team.

Can this help develop strategic thinking?

Yes. One of the three domains measured is strategic thinking — the ability to see patterns, understand how decisions ripple across the organization, and anticipate future implications. The report gives leaders concrete feedback and development recommendations.

Who should take this assessment?

Any leader navigating uncertainty — from executives managing market disruption to managers leading through reorganizations. It is especially valuable for organizations in rapid growth, competitive transition, or industry change.
